Reflecting the issues, which intrinsically permeate this interdisciplinary program, this thesis is divided into three parts. The first presents the life and part work of Val Plumwood who is considered to be on of the fifty key thinkers on the environment and one of the most representative eco-feminist critics. Along with other feminists and eco-philosophers she led the examination of the principle studies and research about the roots of domination in our culture, the forms by which power dominated and manipulated reason promoting injustice, creating privileges and compounding our environmental crisis. The second part presents the principle eco-theories, which offer alternatives to anthropocentrism and related range of sociocultural mechanisms along with the main criticisms they attracted. It presents centers of current research and debate, and movements, which attempt to address issues of the environment and ecological footprint, and lastly responds to the view that it is impossible to even diminish our destructive impact on the planet. The third part responds to the question as to whether it is possible for civil society to organize and create environmental alternatives to live together and presents the most influential movements which inspire and empower people globally to create communities and institutions so that the nature of mankind can co-exist with nature of the planet in better and more sustainable forms.
