A violência de género nas redes sociais virtuais : a proteção das mulheres na perspetiva dos Direitos Humanos

The general scope of this research is to analyze the utility of the social websites and their regulation as a tool in the fight against gender violence. The violence produced and denounced in those sites and the main characteristics of aggressors and victims are also object of special attention. The study describes the legal rules applicable to the social websites. Five hundred videos posted in Youtube are analyzed and classified according to the type of violence and the reactions involved. Those videos are a relevant sample, in terms of the social impact that they produced, in Brazil and Portugal. In effect, they have generated approximately five thousand comments of internauts and commentators and that very rich material is also object of study. The methodology is pluralistic, adapted to each case, qualitative methods, analysis of the plastic and oral discourse and functional analysis of laws being used along the study. The legal analysis focus mainly on the Directive nº 2012/29/UE, the Portuguese Law nº 112/2009 and the Brazilian Law nº 11340/2006.
